Cut the card so that it's as wide as the card you want to make, and twice as high. Then fold it in half so the fold is at the top.

Next draw a shape on the card. Here it's a Christmas tree, but you could draw any shape. What other shapes could you draw? Make sure you include the fold in the top as part of the shape.

Cut out the shape, but leave the card joined at the top.
