You could also try painting the beads when you have made them (this works best if you have used newspaper or plain paper).

Can you think of ways to make each bead much stronger? (Hint: use papier-mâché or sticky-back plastic, or apply a coat of varnish to make them shiny and help protect them.) What else could you make the beads out of?
