DEBUTAgainst Leicester City at Highbury on 7th August 1999. Arsenal won 2-1. |
CAREER HIGHLIGHTSThe flying French forward hit 24 goals last season to finish second in the Premiership scoring charts and break the record for assists (20). This earned him Player of the Year awards from the Professional Footballers Association and the Football Writers. He also scored a further seven goals in the Champions League, including a stunning hat-trick against Roma in the Olympic Stadium in Rome. Thierry's exciting style has brought him over 50 caps for France, and he played for the French sides that won both the Euro 2000 Championships and the 1998 World Cup. When Arsene Wenger brought Thierry to Arsenal he was rated at £11 million by Juventus. This has proved to be a bargain, as he has led the club to consistent success in both the Premiership and FA Cup. And even though Thierry admits he's not a natural goal scorer, he is undoubtedly one of the most popular and thrilling players in the league - particularly with Arsenal supporters who will always remember his spectacular volleyed winner against Manchester United at Highbury in 2000/01. |
