CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

As a 12 year-old Alan Shearer once scored 13 goals in a game, and he has hardly stopped hitting the back of the net since. During his 1988 league debut with Southampton Shearer became the youngest player to score a first-class hat-trick.

After he moved to Blackburn Rovers for a British record of £3.6 million, he became the only player in English football history to score 30 or more goals for three seasons in a row. Without these goals Blackburn would never have won their first league title in 81 years.

After the success of Euro 96 where Shearer finished top scorer with 5 goals, he rejected big money offers from many European clubs. Instead he fulfilled his childhood dream of playing for his hometown club, Newcastle United. The day he signed more than 15,000 Geordies stood in the pouring rain just to watch him wave to them!

It is rumoured that Alan will be taking over from Sir Bobby Robson as manager of Newcastle when he finally decides to hang up his boots.
