What is carbon used for?
Carbon is the most important element. It is a major component of our bodies, but it also makes up many of the things we use. Fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas are carbon based. Diamond, the most valuable gemstone, is pure carbon. Rubber, which has numerous uses in industry, is a carbon compound. Even the paper used in books and the ink used to print them are formed from carbon.
Rubber, steel, diamond, coal, and ink are examples of carbon-based products.
