What is a mineral?
|
Minerals are the building blocks of rocks. If you examine a rock through a magnifying lens, you will see that it is made up of many small particles. Each particle has a specific chemical composition. When a rock forms, the chemicals that comprise it form themselves into mineral particles. There are usually no more than six different kinds of mineral in a particular rock type.
