What are clouds?
Different layers of the atmosphere produce different types of cloud.
Different layers of the atmosphere produce different types of cloud.
When water in the air condenses, it forms tiny droplets. These are so light that they do not fall as rain; instead millions of them gather together as clouds. Fluffy-looking clouds have the word 'cumulus' in their name. Clouds formed in layers are called 'stratus'. Wispy ice clouds are called 'cirrus'.
