Could Egyptians write?
|
Writing was very important to the Egyptians, but only people called scribes, who had been specially trained, could write. They used a method of writing, known as hieroglyphic, which had over 700 pictures or signs. These could be written from left to right, right to left or from top to bottom. Some stood for one letter, others for groups of letters or whole words. | The earliest Egyptian writing was carved on stone. Later, ink was used on paper made from papyrus reeds. |
