Which countries make up the United Kingdom?
|
The official name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain, the eighth-largest island in the world, is made up of England, Scotland, and Wales. The name has been used since 1603, when King James of Scotland also became king of England and Wales. The whole of Ireland was part of the Kingdom until 1922, when it was separated from Northern Ireland and became an independent state.
