Where is the 'Land of the Nomads'?
|
The name Kyrgyzstan means 'Land of the Nomads', and the country has called itself by this name since it gained independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991. Much of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan lies within the Tien Shan mountains. Some Kyrgyz people lead a nomadic life, living in felt tents called yurts. The Kyrgyz keep horses, yaks, and bactrian camels. | Kyrgyzstan's emblem is a traditional yurt, or round tent. |
