What is virtual reality?
Virtual reality is a computer technique that uses sound and vision to simulate a real environment. The user wears a helmet, which projects three-dimensional moving images for each eye. The helmet detects if the user's head moves, and adjusts the images. The person wearing the helmet can look around and even 'walk' through the projected image. Earphones provide stereo sound. A wired-up glove enables the user to 'feel' the virtual image.
Virtual-reality systems are used in simulators to train fighter pilots and tank commanders.
