Why are fish so important as food for people?
|
Fish are important because they are an extremely nourishing source of food. They are rich in protein, which is necessary for body growth and repair. They also contain many essential vitamins, such as niacin. The oil from fish liver is a particularly good source of vitamins A and D. Similar food sources include shellfish (mussels and oysters) and crustaceans (crabs, lobsters, and prawns). | Fish caught for food include (1) Atlantic cod, (2) skipjack tuna, (3) common mackerel, and (4) Atlantic herring. |
