Who was buried at Sutton Hoo?
|
In 625 AD, the Saxon King Raedwald died. He was buried at Sutton Hoo, in Suffolk, England. The king was laid out in a wooden ship, 27 metres long, which people believed would take him to the next world. Spears, dishes, coins, armour, and a stringed instrument called a lyre were found inside the ship. Also found were silver and gold ornaments, such as gold clasps. The ship and the king were buried under a huge mound of earth. The ship was rediscovered in 1938.
