How does the porcupine protect itself?
|
The sharp, spiny quills of a porcupine are really just specially strengthened hairs. In some species, such as the African porcupine, they can reach a length of 50 centimetres. The quills are so strong that they can cause painful injuries if they are jabbed into a would-be attacker.
