Which animals were the first to fly?
Insects have been able to fly for far longer than any other animal. Winged insects probably developed from types of worms that lived in the sea. Some insects were huge, like the giant dragonfly Meganeura, which lived about 300 million years ago. Its wingspan was more than 60 centimetres.
