Which reptiles ruled the seas?
|
Some 150 million years ago, the seas were ruled by ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs. Both had streamlined bodies and paddle-shaped limbs. Ichthyosaurus resembled a cross between a fish and a dolphin. Some plesiosaurs, such as Cryptocleidus, had long necks; others, like Peloneustes, were whale-like. Ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs ate mainly fish, but some plesiosaurs also ate one another.
