How do we breathe?
|
Our bodies need oxygen, which they get from air breathed into the lungs. The lungs are made to expand by a big muscle called the diaphragm, and smaller muscles fixed to the ribs. The diaphragm pushes downward, while the other muscles lift up the ribcage. This draws air down into the lungs, where the oxygen is absorbed into the blood stream.
