How do we hear sounds?
|
When sound waves reach us, the outer ear channels them inside the ear, where they make the eardrum vibrate. The vibrations are magnified 20 times by the hammer, anvil, and stirrup bones, causing liquid to vibrate inside a tube called the cochlea. Nerves in the cochlea pass messages to the brain, enabling us to recognise the sound.
