The Monster In Loch Ness
St Columba was famed for banishing the monster from Loch Ness. Subsequent ‘sightings’ suggest that he was not altogether successful.

The most famous photograph of the Loch Ness monster was taken by a London surgeon in 1934. The date? 1 April.

The naturalist Sir Peter Scott and an American researcher gave Nessie the scientific name Nessiteras rhombopteryx, an anagram of the words ‘monster hoax by Sir Peter S’.

A trail of ‘monster’ footprints was discovered in the soft ground around the edge of Loch Ness. But the experts were not fooled. The footprints had been made using a hippopotamus-foot umbrella stand.
