It's a 'Green Land'

The island of Greenland was discovered by Norseman Erik the Red in 982 AD. He sailed there from Iceland. Most of the island lies under a permanent ice cap, but Erik decided to call it 'Greenland' so as to encourage potential settlers. His ploy worked - a Norse colony was founded there in 986 AD and lasted for 500 years. | A Viking settlement in Greenland |
