An EEC subsidy for transporting cattle between Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic encouraged one farmer during the 1970s to move his stock daily.
Horatio Bottomley fixed a 6-horse race to finish in a certain order. His plans came to nothing when thick fog prevented the jockeys from being able to see each other.
Two horses raced under false names in the 1844 Derby. The fraud was only discovered because there was an enquiry after one kicked the other.
In 1945, all the greyhounds in a race but 1 were drugged. Instead of making them faster, the drug seemed to make them drunk – allowing the sober dog to win!
