What is inside the Earth?
The Earth is like a giant ball with different layers building out from its centre. The centre is the core, made from iron and nickel. The inner core is under such pressure that it is a solid mass, while the outer core is liquid. Next is the mantle, made up of rocky material. This is hot, and in some places it moves very slowly. On the surface of the earth is the crust, which can be up to 31 miles (50 km) thick.
The core, mantle, and crust are the Earth's three components.
