Were the continents once joined together?
The continents are continually moving, inch by inch. About 200 million years ago they were all joined together, forming a huge supercontinent. We know this because the rock types at the edges of the continents match up with each other. We also know, from studying fossils, that when the continents were joined the same animals lived all over the World.
The continents can be fitted together like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, so that their coastlines interlock.
