What is weathering?
Rain, wind, frost, and all kinds of other weather effects can, over time, break down the rocks of the Earth's surface. Even sunlight, heating up rocks by day and allowing them to cool at night, has an effect. All of this erosive action is known as weathering.
The minerals that form rocks take part in an endless round of construction and destruction.
