What is a caldera?
|
A caldera is formed when some or all of the magma drains away from the chamber below the cone of a dormant volcano, causing the cone to collapse. On the island of Thira, Greece, a huge caldera is all that remains of the volcano that erupted in 1500 B.C., wiping out all life on the island. | | An erupting volcano |
