Why do some rocks form in layers?
|
Some rocks are formed from great masses of sand or mud, which build up on the sea floor in layers. Over millions of years, the mass is compressed by the weight of more sand and solidifies into 'sedimentary rock'. | | Folds develop when sedimentary rocks are subjected to pressure. When the pressure is too great for the rocks to withstand, they shear and faults are formed. |
