What is a weather front?
|
When two air masses of different temperatures meet, the boundary between them is called a front. When a warm air mass meets a cold air mass, the warm air mass tends to rise up over the cold one. The moisture carried by the warm air then condenses and falls as rain. We can often see a front approaching, bringing bad weather, by the layers of light and dark cloud which appear to meet. | | At a cold front, hot air is forced up over cold air, resulting in unstable weather. |
