What is the United Nations?
|
| The flag of the United Nations | The United Nations (UN) was set up in 1945 at the end of the Second World War to keep world-wide peace and security, and to promote international co-operation. All the member countries of the UN provide soldiers who act as peacekeepers in any country that comes under attack. During the 1990s, UN peacekeeping forces were involved in many countries, from Africa and the Middle East to the former Yugoslavia.
