What is the Valley of the Kings?
During the period of the New Kingdom, from 1552 BC, royal tombs were situated in the Valley of the Kings, a remote canyon on the west bank of the Nile River at Thebes. This was to prevent robbers from stealing the royal treasures, as they had done from the pyramids.
