What did the Egyptians call their rulers?
|
The first Egyptian rulers were called kings. They were believed to be gods. After 1552 B.C. they were called pharaohs. The pharaoh was by far the most powerful person in the land. He was in charge of the government; he was commander of the army; and he was chief of all the priests. Only one of his wives could be queen. | The pharaoh listened to the day's news from the vizier, his chief minister. |
