Did the Egyptians have cities?
Ancient Egypt had a few large cities. The most important were Thebes in the south and Memphis in the north. These were hot, dusty, and crowded. The ordinary people lived in tall, mudbrick houses designed to keep out the sun. Richer people had spacious houses with walled gardens. The cities' great temples were the centre of Egyptian life.
