Who were the Romans?
The Romans were originally the people who lived in the city of Rome in Italy. In 396 BC, they captured the nearby city of Veii. Over the next 400 years they went on to build up a vast empire by conquering other countries. People who were loyal to the empire were rewarded with citizenship, and thought of themselves as Romans.
Rich Romans frequently enjoyed banquets, and were waited on by servants or slaves.
