What were the new Roman building methods?
Roman builders developed many new ideas and skills. Many of their public buildings were so well made that at least parts of them are still standing. They were the first people to become expert at using concrete, made from volcanic ash and small stones. This made the walls and roofs very strong. They developed the skill of making arches, which meant buildings could be larger than before. They also perfected the dome.
Bricks and cement were used to make the roof of this building, which was supported by a temporary wooden arch.
