Did art play an important part in Roman life?
The house of a wealthy Roman would have been elaborately decorated with wall paintings. Some copied famous Greek paintings; others portrayed the gods and goddesses of love. It would have been filled with silver, pottery, and glass ornaments, and furniture of marble or bronze.
Roman floors were often decorated with colourful mosaics made from tiny pieces of stone. This one shows a hunting scene.
