Who lived in the Bible lands?
|
Many different groups of people lived in the Bible lands at different times. Some of the first were the Canaanites, who lived along the eastern shores of the Mediterranean Sea about 2000 BC. Around 1550-1150 BC, Canaan was dominated by Egypt. When the Egyptians withdrew, the Israelites and Philistines moved in. Merchants called Phoenicians also lived in the area. They set up colonies around the Mediterranean, including the city of Carthage in Tunisia, founded in 814 BC. | Jerusalem in Old Testament times |
