How did Christianity begin?
Christianity was founded by the followers of Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus of Nazareth, known as Jesus Christ, lived in Palestine when it was part of the Roman Empire. The new religion taught that Jesus was the Son of God. It promised everlasting life after death and forgiveness of people's sins. The Romans persecuted early Christians, but in 394 AD, Christianity became the empire's official religion.
On his many travels, St. Paul preached to non-Jews all round the Mediterranean.
