Was food plentiful in Biblical times?
|
The word 'famine' occurs over a hundred times in the Bible. The rains often did not come, which meant that food crops like cereals could not be sown in the rockhard ground after a dry summer. But fruit and vegetables were grown, and grapes were eaten fresh or pressed to make wine. | Once the wheat was harvested, it was threshed to extract the grain. This was ground into flour to make bread. |
