Napoleon Bonaparte was a soldier during the French Revolution. He became a general in 1796 and rose quickly to power. Napoleon made himself Emperor of France in 1804 and rapidly conquered most of Europe. He was finally defeated by the Duke of Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The British exiled him to the island of St. Helena, where he died in 1821.
