When was the Iron Age?
The Iron Age probably began in the Middle East about 4000 BC. The first iron objects were tools and weapons made from meteorites that fell to Earth from space. People first learned how to extract iron from iron ore about 1500 BC, in the Middle East. In Western Europe, the Celts became expert at working iron about 800 BC Farm tools, weapons, and iron cauldrons for cooking meat are just a few of the things they made from metal.
In this Celtic Iron Age hill fort, the cooking pot, weapons, and horseshoes were all made of iron.
