Who were the Luddites?

The Luddites were a group of workers from northern England. They set about destroying the machinery introduced during the Industrial Revolution, because the new machines had put them out of work. When caught, they were hanged or sent to the penal colony of Australia. | Modern machine looms took the place of several traditional hand looms (shown above) and their workers |
