Was there a revolution in transport?
As the Industrial Revolution progressed, iron was used in place of wood to build ships, and in 1802 the first working steamship, the Charlotte Dundas, was launched. But the greatest change came with the invention of the steam train in 1804; eventually there was a network of railroads across Europe and beyond.
The Great Britain, built in 1843, was the first really large ship to be made wholly from iron. She was powered by steam.
