What was the Renaissance?
The Renaissance, which literally means 'rebirth', is generally thought to have begun in Italy during the 14th century and to have ended in the late 16th century. The word is also applied to the new cultural styles in art, architecture, and learning that developed during this time, and which were greatly influenced by ancient Greece and Rome. The Renaissance was also a time of exploration and of scientific discovery.
