What weapons were used in the Second World War?
During the 1930s, Britain and Germany built huge new battleships and armed them with powerful guns that could fire shells great distances. These were gradually replaced during the course of the Second World War with aircraft carriers, which enabled aircraft to attack from the sea. Aircraft also played a decisive role in battles over land, while armoured tanks broke through enemy lines. Anti-aircraft guns were used to protect those on the ground from air attack.
During the war, Britain and Germany built new fighter planes, tanks, and ships.
