How was the Great Pyramid at Giza built?
The Great Pyramid is one of three vast pyramids at Giza, near Cairo in Egypt. It probably took 100,000 men 20 years to build, and it was finished in about 2565 BC. The pyramid was made from more than 2 million blocks of stone, most weighing 2.4 tons or more. These were dragged to the site on sledges, and then hauled up a huge earth ramp, which was made higher for each layer of blocks.
The Great Pyramid was built as a tomb for King Khufu by free men (not slaves), who laboured in honour of their king.
