When was Pakistan founded?
In 1947 India gained independence from Britain and divided into two countries, India and Pakistan. Pakistan was mainly Muslim (India mainly Hindu), and was made up of two areas, West Pakistan and East Pakistan, which were 1,000 miles (1,600 km) apart. In 1971 East Pakistan declared independence and became Bangladesh.
The flag of Pakistan, which features a crescent moon, is based on that of the Muslim League.
