How big is Europe?
Europe is the second smallest of the seven continents: Only Australasia is smaller. Europe has an area of 4 million sq. miles (10.5 million sq km), which is less than a quarter the size of Asia. This map does not include the parts of Russia and Turkey that geographically form part of Europe. An imaginary line running through Russia from the Ural mountains to the Caspian Sea separates Europe from Asia.
The continent of Europe has a rugged coastline, full of peninsulas and dotted with islands.
