What are veins and arteries?
|
| Blood is bright red when it is carrying oxygen. Here arteries are shown as red and veins as blue. | Blood is pumped by the heart along vessels called arteries and veins. It leaves the heart through arteries and carries oxygen to all the cells of the body. When it has delivered its oxygen, blood flows back to the heart through vessels called veins.
