A human skeleton
An adult person has 206 bones. Babies are born with as many as 270 small, soft bones, but as a child grows, some of the bones join together. The largest bone is the femur, or thigh bone, which can be 50 cm long in a tall man. The smallest bone, the stapes, is in the middle ear and is about 3 mm long.
