What is beneath the skin?
|
The skin is made up of two layers of tissue. The thin outer layer, called the epidermis, protects the tissue beneath. The deep inner layer, called the dermis, contains blood vessels and fat. Hairs pass through the epidermis to the surface of the skin. If cells beneath the epidermis become infected, they release chemicals to trap the infection. Other cells try to destroy the bacteria causing the infection. | Chemicals and special cells deal with any infection beneath the outer layer of the skin. |
