Where were the 'Neanderthals' found?
The remains of Homo sapiens neanderthalensis were first found in the Neander valley near Düsseldorf in Germany, in 1856, and it is from this that scientists gave the subspecies its name. These early humans were very strong, with broad heads and jutting brows.
